PlayStation 5 vs. Xbox Series X – Which is Better?

The biggest question in the world of gaming right now is this – which platform is better, PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X. And unfortunately, there’s not a simple answer. Both deliver up to 8K resolutions, possess powerful processors and speedy SSDs. And the graphics are just phenomenal. This article looks at some of the key aspects of both consoles to help you decide whether to buy a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X.

PlayStation 5 vs. Xbox Series X – Price.

Where better to start than the price of each console? The RRP of the PlayStation5 and Xbox Series X is £449, so there’s nothing to split between the two.

PlayStation 5 vs. Xbox Series X – Games.

The game libraries of each console are actually notably different. The PS5 had an exciting inventory of new releases at launch, including Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls, each of which was eagerly anticipated. The Xbox Series X, on the other hand, didn’t release any new titles with its launch, instead releasing optimized titles of Gears 5 and Forza Horizon 4 (among others) to their expectant fans. Due to the new titles, we’d say that PS5 pips Xbox Series X when it comes to current game offerings.

PlayStation 5 vs. Xbox Series X – Controllers.

PlayStation has really gone to town with its next-generation DualSense controller. With bigger grips, sensitive haptics, and an in-built microphone, it’s a huge improvement on the DualShock 4. Like they have done for a while, in contrast, Xbox has played things safe by sticking to an almost identical controller to their last release. The fact that it still requires double-A batteries is a problem unless you’re willing to upgrade to a rechargeable battery pack. Thanks to its innovative DualSense controller, we give the mark here to PlayStation 5.

PlayStation 5 vs. Xbox Series X – Cloud gaming.

Players can enjoy PlayStation Now, which enables streaming of PS3 and PS4 games to your PS5. Currently, it’s £8.99 a month and doesn’t work on mobile platforms, but this will likely change in the future. The Xbox Series X offers players the chance to subscribe to the Xbox Game Pass. And for just £10.99 per month, players can access more than 100 games that can be streamed to Android (providing you have the full title on your console). With both consoles likely to improve their cloud gaming offer in the near future, we’d say that Xbox Series X is currently slightly better.

PlayStation 5 vs. Xbox Series X – Overall.

The debate about whether the PlayStation 5 is better than the Xbox Series X will rage on long into the future. The reality is that there’s very little to split the two, and they both offer incredible, immersive gaming experiences that have taken console-based gaming to a new level. As has been the case in the past, gamers are likely to stick with what they know and upgrade accordingly. And given the exceptional features of both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, they’re unlikely to be disappointed.
